“Human Rights Council”s report on the situation of human rights in Palestinian territories”

UN2-70x84[1]
Gaza has again been the focus of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). In response to the capture of Corporal Gilad Shalit by Palestinian militants on 25 June 2006, and the continued firing of Qassam rockets into Israel, Israel conducted two major military operations within Gaza – “Operation Summer Rains” and “Operation Autumn Clouds”. In the course of these operations, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) made repeated military incursions into Gaza, accompanied by heavy artillery shelling and air-to-surface missile attacks. Missiles, shells and bulldozers destroyed or damaged homes, schools, hospitals, mosques, public buildings, bridges, water pipelines and electricity networks.

Flooding in Gaza: an environmental threat

Torture in streets

Torture_in_streets[1]

In a press conference of March 24th 2007, the Palestinian Minister of Information, Dr Mustafa Barghouthi, showed a group of Journalists two video tabs of how Palestinian civilians have been systematically tortured while crossing the imposed check points, which mad Palestinians’ movementvery difficult to move to their villages, schools, universities and to their work.  (Reported by Al-Jazeera and Maan news, March 24). In one incident, the video shows a woman from Al- Ubaydiyya was bitten by an Israeli police dog during an arrest raid near Bethlehem (the image was taken from Maan news); the second film shows Israeli soldiers brutally beating a Palestinian man from Huwwara, the man was on the checkpoint. Such torturous methods that are systematically used by Israeli solders against civilians are appealing for international community and human right activists to clearly condemn these scandalous violations against innocent civilians.
